A magnitude 7.6 earthquake has hit the Tanimbar area in Indonesia early Tuesday morning, in accordance with Geoscience Australia.
The huge quake was felt as distant as Darwin, with some residents reporting being jolted awake in the course of the evening.

The undersea earthquake occurred at a depth of 97km.

Australians within the Northern Territory shared their experiences on social media after experiencing the large tremor.
Some reported their complete homes have been shaking, whereas others mentioned they struggled to get again to sleep after the “scary” ordeal.
“That Earthquake was scary as! Your complete home simply shook like loopy and footage fell off the partitions!” one girl posted to Twitter.
“Nicely that was surprising. I’ve by no means jumped away from bed as quick,” one other added.
In the meantime, Darwin resident Annabel Bowles informed Dawn at first they believed it was a cyclone.
