A second Qantas airplane has been struck by a possible mechanical downside, with a flight certain for Fiji pressured to return to Sydney on Thursday.

The airplane turned again mid-flight as a “precaution” and circled over the NSW coast for hours earlier than touchdown about 10.50am.

Qantas stated a “fault indicator” on the airplane had alerted the pilots to a “potential mechanical problem”.

Nevertheless the issue didn’t relate to a problem with the engine, Qantas stated.

It is the second scare in as many days after a Qantas flight from Auckland to Sydney issued a mayday name on Wednesday over suspected engine failure.

A full investigation by Qantas and aviation inspectors engineers will determine the cause of Wednesday’s dramatic emergency.

“Engineers will look at the plane.

“We thank clients for his or her endurance and we’re working to get them on their strategy to Fiji as rapidly as attainable.”
