Jai Hindley wins WA Sport Star award for second time after 2022 Giro d’Italia victory

Jai Hindley has capped off a wonderful 12 months by claiming his second WA Sport Star crown on the 2022 SportWest Awards at Optus Stadium on Thursday evening.

The Sport Star award was the most recent accolade to fall into Hindley’s lap following his victory within the Giro d’Italia, the place he grew to become the second Australian to win a grand tour after Cadel Evans.

He gained the award over a powerful discipline of 11 different nominees, which included reigning champion Madison de Rozario, Sam Kerr, Courtney Bruce, Nina Kennedy, Matthew Richardson, Minjee Lee, Alana King, Sami Whitcomb, Kristina Krstic, Yale Steinpreis and Benjamin Sainsbury .

The 26 year-old adopted up his win in Italy with a 10th-placed end on the Vuelta a España, a top-five end at Tirreno-Adriatico and seventh total on the Vuelta a Burgo.
