AFL star Tom Mitchell heartbroken after losing his ‘best friend’, Macy, in a freak accident

AFL Brownlow medalist Tom Mitchell has shared an emotional second on social media after dropping his pet canine in a “freak accident”.

Mitchell revealed that he held his golden retriever, Macy, in his arms as his canine died in a park in Melbourne.

“The very best reminiscences over the past four years,” Mitchell wrote on Instagram.

“Nala (Mitchell’s different golden retriever) and I are heartbroken after a freak accident on the park.

“Grateful to carry her for her final 10 seconds earlier than she handed in my arms.”

Mitchell, who left Hawthorn and joined Collingwood on the finish of final season, revealed that his new Collingwood teammates tried to assist as he watched Macy die.

“Massive due to (ruckman) Darcy Cameron and (former Port Adelaide and Adelaide participant) Billy Frampton for serving to me try to save her,” he wrote.

He mentioned he hoped that they had “limitless snacks” and all of Macy’s favourite TV exhibits in “canine heaven”.

“RSPCA have misplaced their favourite ambassador and we’ve misplaced our greatest pal ❤️,” he wrote.

And RSPCA Victoria, together with Mitchell’s former and new teammates, responded.

“Tom, we’re so sorry and saddened to listen to of your loss,” the RSPCA wrote.

“Macy could not have been matched with a greater human and doggo sibling.

“Considering of Macy, myself and Nala throughout this time. 💖”

The 2-time All-Australian is at his third membership this season.

The son of former AFL champion Barry Mitchell, Tom began his profession in Sydney and left on the finish of the 2016 season.

He was runner-up to Dustin Martin within the 2017 Brownlow Medal in his first season on the Hawks, after which gained the distinguished award in 2018.

The 29-year-old ball-magnet joined Collingwood on the finish of final 12 months as Hawthorn begins a tough rebuild.
