Tragedy at Melbourne’s Werribee Open Range Zoo: Southern white rhinoceros calf dies after birth complications

A southern white rhinoceros born per week in the past in Melbourne has died from inner accidents sustained after beginning.

The feminine calf died at Werribee Open Vary Zoo on Saturday after struggling a neurological episode adopted by cardiac arrest.

The calf was born on Tuesday to first-time mom Kipenzi after a 16-month being pregnant.

Following the beginning, keepers observed an absence in bonding between the pair and the calf was not thriving, so she was taken into the zoo’s vet clinic for medical checks and supplementary feeding.

She was being offered around-the-clock feeds of colostrum and milk from her mom, and the pair have been within the strategy of being re-introduced.
