British designer Dame Mary Quant, who was extensively credited with popularizing the miniskirt, has died on the age of 93.
Quant died peacefully at her residence in Surrey, southern England on Thursday.
An announcement launched on behalf of her household stated: “Dame Mary, aged 93, was one of the crucial internationally acknowledged vogue designers of the 20th century and an impressive innovator of the Swinging Sixties.
“She opened her first store Bazaar within the Kings Highway in 1955 and her far sighted and inventive abilities shortly established a singular contribution to British vogue.”
Quant was one of the crucial influential figures within the vogue scene of the 1960s and is credited with making vogue accessible to the plenty along with her modern, streamlined and vibrant designs.
Born in south-east London on February 11, 1930, Quant was the daughter of two Welsh faculty lecturers.
She gained a diploma within the 1950s in artwork training at Goldsmiths Faculty, the place she met her husband Alexander Plunket Greene, who later helped set up her model.
