Aboriginal inmate dies after exercising in WA country prison

An Indigenous prisoner has died in a Western Australian nation jail after a bodily train session.

The 45-year-old man collapsed whereas enjoying basketball on Tuesday about 4.30pm, the Division of Justice says.

“Jail officers and medical employees offered first support to the person earlier than an ambulance arrived,” a spokesperson mentioned.

However they have been unable to revive the person and paramedics declared him lifeless on the scene.

WA Police will put together a report for the coroner earlier than an inquest into the dying, which is obligatory with all deaths in custody.

It comes a day after the division launched details about the dying of one other Indigenous inmate, who had a medical episode in a jail close to Perth.

The 41-year-old lady had been on life help because the episode at Wandoo Rehabilitation Jail on December 21.

She died at Fiona Stanley Hospital on Saturday.

A spokesman mentioned there have been no suspicious circumstances surrounding the dying.
