Anthony Albanese has praised his New Zealand counterpart as a girl who led with “mind and power” after her shock resignation.
Jacinda Ardern will retire from politics in February and choked again tears as she made the announcement on Thursday.
She mentioned she did not have the vitality to hunt re-election as she instructed New Zealanders they might head to the polls on October 14.
The prime minister mentioned Ms Ardern had “proven the world how you can lead with mind and power”.
“She has demonstrated that empathy and perception are highly effective management qualities,” he wrote on Twitter.
“Jacinda has been a fierce advocate for New Zealand, an inspiration to so many and an ideal pal to me.
“I want (her) and her household properly within the subsequent chapter of their lives.”
Mr Albanese mentioned he seemed ahead to working with the brand new chief.
Ms Ardern mentioned the Labor get together would elect a brand new chief by the weekend.
