A prolific alleged firebug who police declare sparked greater than a dozen fires in Perth’s southern suburbs has been charged.
Strike Pressure Vulcan detectives pounced following investigations into a number of suspicious fires inside Cockburn Central, Henderson, South Lake, Lake Coogee, Beeliar, Jandakot, Yangebup and Spearwood.
Seventeen verge and bushfires have been lit between December 10 and January 28 and police have accused a 51-year-old Yangebup man of willfully lighting all of them.

He’s due in Perth Magistrates courtroom on Friday, with the utmost penalty for this offense 20 years in jail.
The costs come as WA firefighters held silent protests at stations throughout WA.
Fireys who had completed their night time shift lifted banners outdoors their stations at 8am amid considerations over resourcing.
“It’s not about pay. I wish to make that very clear. Our firefighters, our members are over it due to the state of resourcing,” United Skilled Firefighters Union president Clem Chan stated.
“Our firefighters are actually involved as a result of it has the potential to affect the group.”
