Bag limit of three pelagic fish per day at Abrolhos Islands reinstated by Fisheries Minister

Mid West fishermen can rejoice with the three-bag restrict of mackerel and tuna on the Abrolhos Islands being reinstated.

Fisheries Minister Don Punch introduced in December final 12 months adjustments to scale back the catch of demersal scalefish by reducing the bag restrict to just one pelagic fish per day on the Abrolhos.

The fishing neighborhood across the space was left puzzled as there was no inhabitants situation, with the fish in abundance across the Abrolhos Islands.

Recfishwest CEO Dr Andrew Rowland stated constructive talks with the Fisheries Minister led to the unique bag restrict being reinstated.

“We’re glad that frequent sense has prevailed and Recfishwest is wanting ahead to seeing fishermen rightfully benefit from the full advantages of the pelagic sport fishing alternatives out there all through the Abrolhos Islands,” Dr Rowland stated.

“Generations of fishermen have traveled to the islands for the improbable sportfishing alternatives on provide, so that is nice information.

“This transformation was additionally inconsistent with the general push to develop larger sportfishing alternatives to assist the restoration of demersal scalefish species alongside the west coast.”
