Officers have halved Alberto Bettiol’s penalties for his Tour Down Beneath meltdown.
The Italian EF Schooling staff rider suffered cramps close to the tip of stage two into Victor Harbor on Thursday when he was the tour’s total chief.
As Bettiol dropped from the peloton and misplaced the tour lead, he slowed to a crawl and gestured angrily at a TV motorcycle filming his misfortune.
He was initially fined 2000 Swiss francs ($A3120) and, extra crucially, docked 100 UCI factors for his poor conduct.
The factors are like gold as groups attempt to keep away from relegation from the World Tour.
However these penalties had been halved in a single day forward of Bettiol contesting Saturday’s fourth stage at Willunga south of Adelaide.
