A surging dash to the end line has delivered Matt Bevilacqua an Ironman Collection victory he charges because the spotlight of his life.
Bevilacqua pipped Ben Carberry because the pair engaged in an exciting battle for the collection crown within the ultimate race at Kurrawa on the Gold Coast on Sunday.
With defending champion Ali Day dominated out due to a virus, Bevilacqua and Carberry entered the final race tied on factors – whoever completed first between them would declare the title.
The duo had been neck-and-neck after the ski leg, attending to their ft on the similar time for a seaside dash to find out the champion.
Bevilacqua edged out Carberry to seize his second collection title, following his 2018 triumph.
“It feels superior… it is the best achievement of my life,” Bevilacqua mentioned.
“That’s the hardest factor I’ve ever achieved. That final leg (of the race) was so ridiculous, to drop down on the wave with Benny – I used to be like ‘oh, my god’.
