Faithless singer Maxi Jazz dies aged 65 in his sleep in south London

Maxi Jazz, the lead vocalist of British digital music band Faithless and often called the voice in trance hits reminiscent of God Is a DJ and Insomnia, has died aged 65, the band says.

“He was a person who modified our lives in so some ways. He gave correct which means and message to our music,” the opposite two core members of Faithless, Rollo and Sister Bliss, stated in a press release on Fb.

The band stated on Twitter that Jazz had died peacefully in his sleep in south London.

It didn’t give a reason for loss of life.

Jazz was born Maxwell Fraser in Brixton, south London, in 1957.

He helped kind Faithless in 1995, which then grew into probably the most common dance bands in the UK and all over the world.

“He was the kindest man with such an aura about him. His phrases and performances touched so many people,” British DJ MistaJam wrote of Jazz on Twitter.

Reggae band UB40 additionally remembered Jazz as a “pretty man” as they recalled touring with him in 2017 together with his band Maxi Jazz & The E-Sort Boys.

Jazz was a lifelong supporter of Crystal Palace FC and was made an affiliate director of the soccer membership in 2012.

Faithless’ 1995 track Insomnia, which options Jazz rapping about struggling to sleep with the chorus “I can not get no sleep,” was voted the fifth-greatest dance document of all time by readers of dance music journal Mixmag in 2013.

The track, which topped the dance charts in lots of European international locations, made Jazz quip in a 2020 interview: “If I had a quid for each time somebody’s come up going, ‘I can not get no sleep’, I would be dwelling on the house station.”

Faithless stated of their assertion: “He was a superb lyricist, a DJ, a Buddhist, an impressive stage presence, automobile lover, countless talker, stunning particular person, ethical compass and genius.”
