Chris Hipkins has been sworn in as New Zealand’s 41st prime minister in a ceremony at Authorities Home.

Mr Hipkins was sworn in alongside his deputy PM Carmel Sepuloni on Wednesday in Wellington, simply minutes after the resignation of outgoing PM Jacinda Ardern.

The pair have been congratulated by Governor Basic Dame Cindy Kiro, who signed their warrants of appointment.

Household and buddies of Mr Hipkins and Ms Sepuloni, together with a number of cupboard ministers, packed Authorities Home’s ballroom for the event.

Mr Hipkins’ first feedback after the official picture, requested the way it felt to be sworn in, have been “it feels fairly actual now”.
