Cardinal George Pell has died in Vatican Metropolis, aged 81.

Cardinal Pell, the previous Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne, died on Tuesday night, AAP has confirmed.

He was the Vatican’s high finance minister earlier than he left in 2017 to face trial in Australia for youngster abuse offences.

Cardinal Pell was in 2018 convicted of molesting two teenage choirboys within the vestry at St Patrick’s Cathedral whereas he was Archbishop of Melbourne in 1996.

Pell all the time maintained his innocence and his convictions had been quashed in a unanimous determination by the Excessive Court docket in 2020.
