Wandoo Rehabilitation Prison inmate dies in hospital after medical episode

An Indigenous lady has died after struggling a medical episode at a jail in Western Australia.

The 41-year-old had been on life help because the episode at Wandoo Rehabilitation Jail in Perth on December 21, the Division of Justice stated on Tuesday.

She died at Fiona Stanley Hospital on Christmas Eve.

Jail officers and medical employees supplied first assist till paramedics arrived by way of air ambulance, the division stated.

Preliminary studies confirmed no suspicious circumstances.

Corrective Companies Commissioner Mike Reynolds supplied his condolences to the girl’s household.

A report shall be supplied to the coroner.

In 2021-22, there have been 106 deaths in custody throughout Australia, information from the Institute of Criminology revealed.

Of these, 84 deaths have been reported in jail custody and 22 in police custody or custody-related operations.
